LOUISVILLE, Ky., May 29 (UPI) -- Hale Irwin played 27 holes Saturday to take a one-shot lead over Dave Barr midway through the third round of the rain-plagued Senior PGA Championship.
"I guess I improved the position some, but it's kind of hard to play in the dark," said Irwin, who is 6-under-par.
After carding a 4-under-par 67 over the first two days, Irwin managed a 69 to take the lead at the midway point.
Barr is one shot better than Jay Haas, Wayne Levi, Gil Morgan, Tom Watson and John Harris. Harris has 10 holes remaining in his third round.
Levi held a one-shot lead when play ended Friday but dropped two strokes Saturday. Haas picked up a stroke and Watson played par golf.
Little golf was played over the first two days as torrential rains dumped more than five inches on the Valhalla Golf Club this week.
The second round finally was completed Saturday afternoon.
