Els leads Volvo PGA

SURREY, England, May 27 (UPI) -- Ernie Els shot an 8-under-par 64 and held a one-stroke lead Thursday after the first round of the Volvo PGA championship in England.

Miguel Angel Jimenez, Stephen Dodd and Christopher Hanell were tied for second at 65. Vijay Singh shot a 66.

Els has won the Match Play championship on the same course at the Wentworth Club five times but has not won the Volvo event.

"I was striking the ball well and I know the course so well," Els said.
