MLB: Philadelphia 5, San Diego 4

PHILADELPHIA, May 21 (UPI) -- Chase Utley beat out an infield hit to drive in Bobby Abreu with the go-ahead run in the eighth Friday night as Philadelphia rallied past San Diego, 5-4.

Batting fifth behind behind Pat Burrell, Utley had a solo homer and RBI double among his three hits. He also made what looked to be a costly blunder on the bases.

After Utley's double pulled the Phillies within 4-2 in the seventh, he was thrown out trying to advance to third on a ball in the dirt with David Bell at the plate. Bell wound up hitting a homer to make it a one-run game.

But in the eighth, Utley redeemed himself when he reached on a grounder to the shortstop that snapped a 4-4 tie. Playing second base in place of Placido Polanco, who is on the disabled list, Utley is eight for 18 with three homers and 11 RBI in his last five games.
