Raiders sign Hambrick and Terrell

ALAMEDA, Calif., May 17 (UPI) -- Four days after being released by the Dallas Cowboys, Troy Hambrick landed Monday with the Oakland Raiders.

Hambrick led the Cowboys in rushing with a career-high 972 yards last season but averaged just 3.5 yards per carry. His days in Dallas were numbered after the Cowboys selected running back Julius Jones in the second round of last month's draft.

The Raiders also signed safety David Terrell, a starter with the Washington Redskins in 2001 and 2002.

Hambrick, 27, served as a backup at both running back and fullback in his first three years with the Cowboys before becoming the successor to Emmitt Smith last season. In Oakland, Hambrick will compete with Tyrone Wheatley, who rushed for 678 yards last season, and second-year back Justin Fargas.

Terrell, 28, started 32 straight games at free safety for the Redskins before losing his job last year to Matt Bowen.
