IRVING, Texas, May 15 (UPI) -- Sergio Garcia vaulted past a struggling Tiger Woods Saturday to take the lead after the third round at the Byron Nelson Championship.
Garcia took advantage of benign conditions, hitting every green to card a 5-under-par 65. The Spaniard is at 11-under 199 after 54 holes, two strokes clear of Jerry Kelly (67).
Woods, the second-round leader, had a poor day with his driver, battling to a 70 that left him tied for third with Deane Pappas (66), three shots behind.
It is the second straight week that Woods has been the halfway leader, but has fallen off the pace in the third round. Last week at the Wachovia Championship, he fought back on Sunday to finish one shot out of the playoff.
Garcia, 24, hasn't won for more than two years on the PGA Tour. He carded six birdies and his lone bogey was the fourth hole, where he 3-putted from 31 feet.
