Task force against charging players

DENVER, May 11 (UPI) -- A University of Colorado law enforcement task force has decided against filing criminal charges in nine cases of sexual assault allegations.

The cases involved football players from the school. Based on a lack of evidence and the wishes of alleged victims not to be subjected to the criminal justice process, the task force reached a unanimous decision not to file charges.

Appointed special prosecutor by Colorado Gov. Bill Owens, Attorney General Ken Salazar said the matters "will remain open in the event that the nature of evidence ... changes in the future."

The task force added that it will continue its investigation concerning other potential criminal matters involving the football team and its recruiting program.

In February, coach Gary Barnett was placed on administrative leave for alleged sexual misconduct within his program. School President Elizabeth Hoffman said he was reprimanded for comments he made to charges by former Colorado kicker Katie Hnida that she was raped by a teammate.
