BARCELONA, Spain, May 8 (UPI) -- Michael Schumacher, a six-time Formula One world champion, won the pole position for Sunday's Spanish Grand Prix.

Schumacher, representing Ferrari, drove the 2.939-mile course at the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona in 1 minute, 15.22 seconds, Saturday to earn his 59th pole in 200 Formula One races.

"We'll take it," Schumacher told the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. "I knew that I had a very good first and second sector which meant I could be safe on the last sector."

Schumacher has been the winner in Barcelona five times, including the past three years.
