TAMPA, Fla., May 7 (UPI) -- The battle for the NHL's Stanley Cup resumes in Tampa Saturday, with the Philadelphia Flyers taking on the Tampa Bay Lightning.
The Flyers, in the Eastern Conference finals for the third time in eight years, have won the Stanley Cup twice, in 1974 and 1975. Tampa Bay is in the conference finals for the first time in the team's 12-year history. The game starts at 3 p.m. EDT.
The Western Conference championship series begins at 4 p.m. EDT Sunday in San Jose, Calif., with the San Jose Sharks meeting the Calgary Flames.
The Sharks, like the Lightning, are making their first appearance in a conference final series. Calgary has been there before and won the Stanley Cup in 1989.
Tampa Bay advanced to the conference finals by knocking out the Montreal Canadians, San Jose eliminated the Colorado Avalanche, Philadelphia beat Toronto after ousting the defending Stanley Cup champion New Jersey Devils, and Calgary stunned the pre-tournament favorite Detroit Red Wings.
The playoff scoring leaders for the four cup contenders are Jarome Iginla of Calgary and Alexei Zhamnov of Philadelphia, each with 12 points, and Fredrik Modin of Tampa Bay and Vincent Damphousse of San Jose with 11.
