Injured WNBA guard may be out for season

PHOENIX, May 4 (UPI) -- An injury suffered in practice may sideline guard Edwina Brown of the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury for the rest of the season, the team reported Tuesday.

Brown, in her first season with the team after three years with the Detroit Shock, ruptured her left Achilles tendon Monday night.

"This is really a tough loss for this team," said Mercury General Manager Seth Sulka. "Edwina is a special player that brings passion, heart and intensity to practice every day. Her presence on the court will certainly be missed."

Brown has averaged 5.2 points a game in her WNBA career.
