MLB: Kansas City 5, Texas 3

KANSAS CITY, Mo., April 28 (UPI) -- Ken Harvey's three-run homer in the fifth inning off Kenny Rogers lifted Kansas City to its third win in 13 games Wednesday night, 5-3 over Texas.

The Rangers had a four-game winning streak snapped.

Harvey originally hit a long fly ball down the left field line that was ruled fair by third base umpire Tim Welke and Harvey circled the bases, giving the Royals a 4-1 lead.

But Rogers loudly protested that the ball had curled foul and after conferring, the umpires agreed. Replays indicated the ball was foul.

Following a lengthy mound conversation with Rangers pitching coach Orel Hershiser, Rogers' next offering was drilled into the left-field seats. This time, there was no argument.

Harvey had three hits to raise his average to .421, second in the American League. The big first baseman has 15 hits in his last 30 at-bats.
