DETROIT, April 25 (UPI) -- Jake Westbrook tossed his first career one-hitter Sunday as the Cleveland Indians avoided a three-game sweep with a 3-2 victory over the Detroit Tigers.
Westbrook's victory followed up his perfect seven-inning relief effort against the Tigers last week in Cleveland.
The only hit allowed by Westbrook (1-1) in 16 innings against the Tigers was a solo home run by Carlos Pena in the second. He walked three and struck out three, throwing 58 of 100 pitches for strikes.
Detroit also scored an unearned run in the seventh without a hit.
Jason Johnson (1-4) pitched well in defeat, settling down after allowing two runs in the second on Ben Broussard's RBI double and Alex Escobar's run-scoring single.
Jody Gerut's solo homer in the third gave the Indians a 3-1 lead. Nine of Gerut's 25 career home runs and 35 of his 86 RBI have come against Detroit.
Detroit's Brandon Inge went 0-for-3, ending his 10-game hitting streak.
