TALLADEGA, Ala., April 24 (UPI) -- Dale Earnhardt Jr. ran interference Saturday for Martin Truex Jr., who scored his second career NASCAR Busch Series victory in the Aaron's 312..
A 23-year-old from New Jersey, Truex became the first Busch driver to win more than once this season.
"To beat Dale Earnhardt Jr. at Talladega, what can I say?" he asked. "He helped push me to the win. I told Dale Earnhardt Jr. we broke his streak at Talladega, and he said, 'No, you didn't because I own this car.'"
The race ended under caution after pole-sitter Clint Bowyer and Bobby Hamilton Jr. crashed with two laps to go. The crash also involved Tony Raines, Steve Grissom and Tracey Hines.
Ron Hornaday finished third and was followed by rookie Kyle Busch and Jason Leffler. Robby Gordon, Kenny Wallace, Michael Waltrip, David Green and Jason Keller rounded out the top 10. Chevrolets were the first nine cars to cross the finish line.
