MLB: Arizona 5, San Diego 2

PHOENIX, April 23 (UPI) -- Richie Sexson's three-run homer in the eighth inning snapped a tie Friday night and lifted Arizona to a 5-2 win over San Diego.

Acquired from Milwaukee in a nine-player deal in December, Sexson has gotten off to a somewhat slow start with the Diamondbacks. He was hitting just .197 but led the team with five homers and 13 RBI.

The slugger did well last week in Arizona's three-game series at San Diego, belting a pair of homers and driving in five runs. He continued that success in this one, giving the Diamondbacks a 1-0 lead with an RBI single in the first inning before coming through in the eighth.

With one out, Matt Kata reached on a bunt single and stole second. San Diego starter Adam Eaton retired Alex Cintron but intentionally walked Luis Gonzalez to pitch to Sexson, who homered to center on the first pitch to give Arizona a 5-2 lead.
