Burris played the past two seasons for the Cincinnati Bengals, making 44 tackles and intercepting two passes. He previously played for Buffalo and Indianapolis.

Burris suffered two concussions last season and missed three games.

The 6-0, 190-pound, 10-year veteran joins a New England cornerback corps that includes Otis Smith, Ty Law, Tyrone Poole and Asante Samuel.

"Jeff is close with Tyrone and that played a part in his decision," agent Peter Schaffer said. "Tyrone had good things to say about the team, the system and the coaches."

Burris' career NFL totals include 540 tackles and 19 interceptions.
