VALENCIA, Spain, April 16 (UPI) -- Spaniard Albert Montanes advanced to the semifinals of the Valencia Open in Spain Friday with a 2-6, 6-2, 6-0 win over countryman Marc Lopez.
In another match, Spain's Fernando Verdasco led seventh-seed David Ferrer, also of Spain, 5-2 before play was halted by rain.

Montanes will next play either sixth-seeded Alberto Martin of Spain or Christophe Rochus of Belgium.
The winner of the Verdasco-Ferrer match will meet either defending champion and top seed Juan Carlos Ferrero or Croatian Mario Ancic in the semis.
Ferrero defeated Rochus in last year's championship match.
