Nadal ousts Ivanisevic

ESTORIL, Portugal, April 14 (UPI) -- Rafael Nadal improved his season's record to 15-8 Wednesday with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Goran Ivanisevic in the first round of the Estoril Open.

The match lasted just 65 minutes.

Nadal is having a strong season. At Miami, he defeated world No. 1 Roger Federer, and he was runner-up at Auckland in January.

His next opponent will be Richard Gasquet, who outlasted second seed Nicolas Massu of Chile, 0-6, 7-6 (7-2), 7-6 (7-5). Massu has dropped four straight ATP matches.

Also, French qualifier Florian Mayer cruised past Czech Radek Stepanek, 6-4, 6-2; Romanian Victor Hanescu defeated Belgian Olivier Rochus, 6-4, 6-0; and Olivier Patience of France dispatched Czech qualifier Jiri Vanek, 6-3, 6-2.

The women's draw lost its top two seeds -- Elena Bovina of Russia and Alicia Molik of Australia.
