CHARLESTON, S.C., April 14 (UPI) -- Playing just her fourth event of the year, Jennifer Capriati dispatched Lina Krasnoroutskaya, 6-3, 6-1, Wednesday at the Family Circle Cup.

The seventh-seeded American has won three Grand Slams and was once ranked No. 1 in the world, but has not been the same since she came within two points of reaching the final of the U.S. Open before losing to eventual champion Justin Henin-Hardenne.

Capriati started this season slowly due to a back injury sustained at the season-ending WTA Tour Championships last November.

The 28-year-old Capriati received a first-round bye.

Sixth-seeded Elena Dementieva dispatched Anabel Medina Garrigues, 6-2, 6-2. Eighth seed Nadia Petrova held off Akiko Morigami, 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (7-5).
