Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24
SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico, April 12 (UPI) -- The New York Mets, as expected, placed outfielder Cliff Floyd on the 15-day disabled list Monday with a leg injury.
Floyd strained his right thigh while running to first base in a 4-1 win Sunday over the Montreal Expos in San Juan. He pulled up limping before he reached the base and had to be helped off the field.
The 31-year-old left fielder, whose first season with the Mets was in 2001, has often been injured. He missed most of the 1995 season with a broken wrist and was out three months because of a pulled hamstring in 1997. He was on the disabled list twice in 1999 and missed a month after knee surgery in 2000.
Last season, he had an Achilles injury that required surgery.
"You get to the point where you're just frustrated as hell," Floyd said. "I did everything I wanted to do this off-season, felt good. You feel like you're letting your boys down. That's the worst part."
The Mets (3-3) recalled outfielder Eric Duncan from Class AAA Norfolk of the International League to replace Floyd on the roster.
