MLB: Tampa Bay 4, Baltimore 3 (10 inn.)

April 9, 2004 at 11:15 PM

TAMPA, Fla., April 9 (UPI) -- Pinch-hitter Eduardo Perez singled in Jose Cruz Jr. with the winning run in the 10th inning Friday night, giving Tampa Bay a 4-3 win over Baltimore.

The Devil Rays managed just three hits and wasted numerous scoring chances against Orioles starter Sidney Ponson. But they got to Baltimore's bullpen, which used five relievers in a 13-inning win over Boston on Thursday.

After stranding two in the eighth, the Devil Rays tied the game on Robert Fick's one-out homer off Orioles closer Jorge Julio.

Julio gave up a single to Carl Crawford and walked Lugo but retired Aubrey Huff on a groundout.

After Baltimore went in order in the top of the 10th, John Parrish (0-1) came on. He walked Cruz and pinch-hitter Damian Rolls sacrificed.

Rocco Baldelli was walked intentionally and Perez, hitting for Geoff Blum, lined a 1-0 pitch up the middle as Tampa Bay won for the third time in five games.
