Officials clear Iowa football program

DES MOINES, Iowa, April 2 (UPI) -- State officials have cleared the University of Iowa's football program of any wrongdoing in a football prospect's sexual liaison during a visit to campus.

Iowa Deputy Attorney General Douglas Marek looked into an allegation reported by a newspaper that quoted Nick Patton, a recruit from Kansas, saying the school may have arranged sex for him, WOI-TV, Des Moines, reported Friday.

But Marek's review found while Patton's September visit was not typical, football staff and players had nothing to do with his sexual activity on campus.

It said the allegation in the Kansas newspaper was "without merit."

However, the report also noted the visit was not typical because Patton stayed two-days, his player host lived off-campus and he went to a nightclub.

That's where he met a young woman, who wasn't identified in the report and apparently attends another school. The following day, the two had consensual sex in Patton's hotel room.
