Philadelphia had lost its two previous games. But the Flyers were inspired by the return of two of their best defensive players and got a solid performance from Burke to hand Montreal its fifth straight loss.

A Selke Trophy candidate, Primeau returned after missing 21 games with a concussion. Desjardins played for the first time since fracturing his right forearm on Jan. 17, a span of 32 contests.

Both were instrumental in the second shutout of the season for Burke, who stopped nine shots in the first period, eight in the second and seven in the third.

Simon Gagne and Michal Handzus provided the offense for the Flyers, who moved two points ahead of second-place New Jersey in the Atlantic Division with two games to play.
