George Mason extends Larranaga's contract

FAIRFAX, Va., March 31 (UPI) -- George Mason University Wednesday extended the contract of men's basketball Coach Jim Larranaga two years through 2009.

Larranaga's 2003-04 team finished at 23-10, the most wins in school history. The Patriots lost to Virginia Commonwealth in the Colonial Athletic Association championship game and won two games in the National Invitation Tournament before falling to Oregon.

Larranaga's record in seven seasons at George Mason is 123-84.

"Jim has really done a terrific job bringing the program at George Mason to a level of prominence in the CAA and nationally," said Tom O'Connor, director of athletics.

Larranga said: "I love George Mason University and have since the day I arrived. The support given to me and my staff from the university's administration and athletic department makes this an ideal situation and a wonderful place to work."
