Nevada coach stays put

RENO, Nev., March 30 (UPI) -- Nevada Athletic Director Chris Ault announced Tuesday that Coach Trent Johnson had agreed to a five-year contract worth more than $450,000 annually.

The signing came a day after Johnson interviewed with Utah, which is seeking to find a successor to Rick Majerus.

Johnson led Nevada to a 25-9 record, the Western Athletic Conference tournament title and a stunning run to the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16.

The Wolf Pack upset Michigan State and second-seeded Gonzaga before falling to Georgia Tech.

Johnson's decision to stay at Nevada makes Ray Giacoletti the frontrunner for the Utah job. Giacoletti led Eastern Washington to its first NCAA Tournament berth this season.
