Hatalsky catches Purtzer for Senior lead

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif., March 20 (UPI) -- Morris Hatalsky had a 5-under-par 66 on Saturday and caught Tom Purtzer for the lead at the $1.6 million Toshiba Senior Classic.

Hatalsky was even better in Friday's opening round, when he shot a 65. But that was obscured by Purtzer's 60 that matched a Champions Tour record.

Saturday, Purtzer found the Newport Beach course a bit more challenging as he had a par 71. He gave away a four-shot lead, the biggest 18-hole advantage since Allen Doyle built a four-stroke cushion at the 2000 Senior Tour Championship.

Both players are at 11-under 131, one stroke better than Keith Fergus (66) and John Jacobs (65). It is another two shots back to D.A. Weibring, who also fired a 65.
