Woods goes for 5 in a row at Bay Hill

ORLANDO, Fla., March 17 (UPI) -- Tiger Woods shoots for a history-making fifth straight victory in the Bay Hill Invitational opening Thursday in Orlando.

No other player on any world pro golf tour has ever won the same tournament five straight years.

No one has won four straight since Walter Hagen and Gene Sarazen in the 1920s.

Woods, who at 28 already has 40 career titles, won the World Golf Championship Accenture Match Play title earlier this year.

The world's top-ranked player, winner at Bay Hill last year by 11 strokes, tees off at 8 a.m. in a threesome with Tom Watson and Tommy Armour III.

Woods' major challengers in the field include Vijay Singh, Ernie Els, Davis Love III and Retief Goosen. Other contenders include Stuart Appleby, John Daly, Shiegeki Maruyama and Todd Hamilton, the 38-year-old tour newcomer who won the Honda Classic last week -- all in the Top 10 on the money list this season.

Els said if Woods wins Bay Hill again "it will be quite an achievement, especially in modern-day golf."

First prize in the tournament on the 7,267-yard Bay Hill course is $900,000.
