Malone back with Lakers

MINNEAPOLIS, March 12 (UPI) -- Starting forward Karl Malone is back in the Los Angeles Lakers lineup after 10 weeks on the injured list.

The Lakers activated Malone Friday before their game against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

The 40-year-old Malone was placed on the injured list Jan. 4 with a sprained right knee.

Malone has averaged 14 points and 9.5 rebounds per game this season, his first with the Lakers after 17 years with

the Utah Jazz. His career scoring average is 25.2 points a game.

Los Angeles placed rookie forward Brian Cook on the injured list with back spasms to make room for Malone.
