Thrashers acquire Rossiter from Panthers

ATLANTA, March 8 (UPI) -- The Florida Panthers sent defenseman Kyle Rossiter to the Atlanta Thrashers for center Kamil Piros on Monday.

Selected 30th overall in 1998, Rossiter has enjoyed a successful minor league career but could not earn himself a spot on the Panthers' roster. In nine NHL games over the past three seasons, he has collected nine penalty minutes without registering a point.

After being named the CHL and WHL Scholastic Player of the Year in 1997-98, the 23-year-old Rossiter was a member of Canada's bronze medal-winning team at the 2000 world junior championships. He also played in the 2000 WHL All-Star Game and was Spokane's nominee for the defenseman of the year award.

Piros recorded one assist in 14 games with Atlanta this season. The 25-year-old Czech has three goals and four assists in 25 career contests.
