Ottawa is unbeaten in its last six games in Washington and, in this one, feasted on a team that has traded away most of its stars and held out top goaltender Olaf Kolzig. The Capitals sent right wing Anson Carter to Los Angeles earlier on Monday.

Another player the Capitals traded away was Peter Bondra, the team's all-time leading scorer.

Tough guy Stephen Peat had the lone goal for Washington, which is 3-6-1 since trading Bondra.
