M. Schumacher wins Australian Grand Prix

MELBOURNE, March 7 (UPI) -- Germany's Michael Schumacher resumed his hold on Formula One racing Sunday with a wire-to-wire win at the season-opening Australian Grand Prix.

A day after taking the pole in record-breaking fashion, Schumacher claimed his 71st career win and fourth at this event. The six-time world champion led all 54 laps and crossed the finish line 13.6 seconds ahead of Ferrari teammate Rubens Barrichello of Brazil.

Schumacher has dominated F1 in recent seasons, winning four straight championships.

Fernando Alonso of Spain was third for Renault, with Ralf Schumacher fourth, ahead of Williams teammate Juan Montoya of Colombia and England's Jenson Button.
