COL BKB: Marquette 81, Louisville 80

MILWAUKEE, March 6 (UPI) -- Freshman Dameon Mason made a three-point play with only a second remaining Saturday as Marquette posted an 81-80 Conference USA win over No. 24 Louisville.

Mason was fouled by Alhaji Mohammed while hitting a fallaway jumper from the right baseline off an inbounds pass. His foul shot gave the Golden Eagles (17-10) the lead.

Louisville (19-8) was unable to get off a shot as a desperation pass was knocked out of bounds.

The Cardinals had taken an 80-78 lead on Taquan Dean's two free throws with 12 seconds left. A three-pointer by Marquette's Brandon Bell went in and out, but the rebound was knocked out by Louisville.

Steve Novak scored 20 points for Marquette, which won just four of its last nine games. Francisco Garcia scored 23 points for the Louisville, which finished tied for sixth in Conference USA with St. Louis.
