Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

HATTIESBURG, Miss., March 5 (UPI) -- Southern Mississippi basketball coach James Green announced his resignation Friday after eight years at the school.
Associate Jeff Norwood will serve as interim coach for the remainder of the season. The Golden Eagles (13-13) close out the regular season Saturday against East Carolina.
"I'm thankful for the opportunity that I've had here at Southern Miss," Green said. "I've been blessed in that I've had a dream come true."
Green posted a 123-109 record at Southern Miss, leading the Golden Eagles to a Conference USA co-regular season championship in 2000-01 and a berth in the NIT. Southern Miss also made an NIT appearance under Green in 1997-98.
