"The acquisition of Jim Dowd gives us the opportunity to add experience and depth to our group of centermen," said Montreal Coach Bob Gainey. "Jim's style of play and his characteristics as a player will be a good complement to our team and will help us in our efforts to secure a playoff spot."

Dowd was chosen by the Wild in the 2000 expansion draft. He had four goals, 20 assists and 38 penalty minutes in 55 games this season.

He has also played for the New Jersey Devils, Vancouver Canucks, New York Islanders, Calgary Flames and Edmonton Oilers.
