Mutombo placed on injured list

NEW YORK, March 3 (UPI) -- The New York Knicks placed center Dikembe Mutombo on the injured list Wednesday following an abdominal surgical procedure.

The 7-2 Mutombo, 37, underwent an undisclosed surgery on his abdomen early Wednesday at Beth Israel Hospital, the team announced.

Mutombo is averaging 5.8 points, 6.7 rebounds and 1.90 blocks in 60 games with the Knicks this season. A four-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year, Mutombo will be eligible to return for New York's contest at Milwaukee on March 14.
