WASHINGTON, Feb. 29 (UPI) -- Washington Wizards' Jerry Stackhouse says he may have returned too soon from a knee injury and will sit out the rest of the NBA season.
Stackhouse, who missed the first three months of the season while recovering from knee surgery, scored 20 points in Saturday's 122-110 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers. After meeting with coach Eddie Jordan, Stackhouse decided he would never fully recover without more rest.
"I'm kind of caught at a crossroad," Stackhouse said. "I'm going to sit down and talk to people because right now I'm not healthy and, well. I don't feel like I'm being able to play the way I can play and I don't want to go into the offseason rehabbing."
Stackhouse, the Wizards' leading scorer last season, underwent arthroscopic knee surgery on Oct. 21. He was diagnosed last fall with chondromalacia, a wearing of the lining in the back of the kneecap.
He returned to the lineup on Feb. 1 and averaged 14.1 points and 3.8 rebounds in 12 games.
"I just got to start thinking with my head as opposed to my heart," Stackhouse said. "I probably came back a little too soon."
