SUNRISE, Fla., Feb. 27 (UPI) -- Roberto Luongo allowed three goals in the third period Friday night as Florida had a five-game unbeaten streak snapped with a 4-1 loss to Washington.
The All-Star goaltender appeared on the way to his third straight shutout and fourth in five games. But he had his team-record shutout streak stopped at 182 minutes, 37 seconds when Brian Willsie capitalized on a giveaway by Vaeri Bure behind the Florida net and forged a 1-1 tie at 4:47 of the third.
Just 6 1/2 minutes later, Kip Miller streaked down the slot unchecked and put a rebound past Luongo. Rookie Alexander Semin stripped defenseman Andreas Lilja behind the net and put a backhander past Luongo to give the Capitals a 3-1 lead with 3:27 remaining.
Mike Grier added an empty-net goal for Washington, which continued its fire sale before the game by trading leading scorer Robert Lang to Detroit.
