NBA referees protest suspension

CHICAGO, Feb. 27 (UPI) -- NBA referees working around the league protested the suspension of one of their colleagues Friday by wearing their shirts inside out.

Referee Michael Henderson has been suspended three games by the league because of an error made late in Wednesday night's Los Angeles Lakers-Denver game. The mistake altered the outcome of a game won by the Lakers, 112-111.

A statement from the National Basketball Referees Association said its members would stage a symbolic protest.

"Let's just say things are going to be turned inside out, but we are not going to lose the shirts off our backs in the process," NBRA spokesman Lamell McMorris said.

Referees wore their shirts inside out, with Henderson's No. 62 written on the back of the shirts.

"The NBA's decision to remove a referee from officiating games based on a judgment call is in complete contradiction of the established NBA's officiating performance standards," McMorris said.
