Havlat suspended by NHL

TORONTO, Feb. 27 (UPI) -- Ottawa Senators left wing Martin Havlat was suspended two games without pay Friday for a high-sticking incident Thursday night.

Havlat, who also was suspended for two games in January, was assessed a match penalty after striking Mark Recchi in the head with the shaft of his stick at 3:26 of the third period.

The 23-year-old Havlat was fined as a repeat offender under the terms of the collective bargaining agreement. He will forfeit $36,585.36 and miss back-to-back games against the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday and March 3.
