Mondesi has one-year deal with Pirates

BRADENTON, Fla., Feb. 24 (UPI) -- BRADENTON, Florida - Outfielder Raul Mondesi, who played for New York and Arizona last year, is now a Pittsburgh Pirate.

The 32-year-old Mondesi, a former Rookie of the Year, was signed by the Pirates Monday to a one-year contract.

He is a .276 career hitter with 264 home runs and 828 runs batted in in 11 seasons.

Mondesi played the first seven years of his career with the Los Angeles Dodgers, went to Toronto in 2000 and split the 2003 season between the Yankees and Diamondbacks, hitting 24 homes and driving in 71 runs in 143 games.
