Canucks Cooke suspended two games

TORONTO, Feb. 21 (UPI) -- Vancouver Canucks left wing Matt Cooke was suspended two games without pay by the NHL on Saturday.

The suspension came two days after he was assessed a double roughing minor and a 10-minute misconduct in a 6-2 loss to the Minnesota Wild.

Cooke was slashed by Wild left wing Matt Johnson, who on Friday was suspended five games. Cooke retaliated by spearing Johnson in the midsection.

Cooke, 25, will forfeit $5,092 under the terms of the collective bargaining agreement. He will miss Saturday's game at Edmonton and Tuesday's contest against Detroit, and can return Thursday against San Jose.
