Schuettler, Schalken win at Rotterdam

ROTTERDAM, Netherlands, Feb. 16 (UPI) -- Rainer Schuettler earned his first win of the season and Sjeng Schalken spoiled the second phase of Goran Ivanisevic's comeback Monday at the World Tennis Tournament.

Schuettler dispatched Austrian Stefan Koubek, 6-3, 6-2, for his first win in four matches. He finished last year ranked a career-high sixth but failed to defend the points he gained by reaching the final at the 2003 Australian Open.

Schalken romped over Ivanisevic, 6-3, 6-3, to improve to 7-3 on the ATP Tour this season.

Ivanisevic, the 1996 winner, made a successful return last week at the Milan Indoors, winning a first-round match. He had played sparingly since winning Wimbledon in 2001 due to a series of injuries.

Also, Radek Stepanek of the Czech Republic rallied past Olivier Rochus of Belgium, 5-7, 6-2, 6-2, and Dutch wild card John Van Lottum defeated Slovakia's Karol Kucera, 6-2, 7-6 (7-4).
