Injured Flyer Roenick mulls retirement

PHILADELPHIA, Feb. 15 (UPI) -- Philadelphia Flyers center Jeremy Roenick is considering retirement after breaking his jaw Thursday night, Sports Illustrated said on its Web site.

Roenick said he will consult with Montreal neurologist Karen Johnston on whether he can return to the Flyers this season.

"I'm mulling over a lot of things right now and I'm not ruling out retirement," Roenick told SI.com late Saturday afternoon on his cell phone. "We've talked about in the last 24 hours. I have a lot to weigh. This is nine concussions and that does something to you.

"I'm a little shook up. When you take two shots, point blank to the face like I have in the past two months, it's a pretty scary thing. I have to see how the neurological stuff turns out and how my body reacts before I do anything."

Flyers head coach Ken Hitchcock said he did not think "there is any question" that Roenick will return. "Right now, he is riding an emotional wave ... . He needs some rest."
