Laura Davies misses the cut

PORT STEPHENS, Australia, Feb. 13 (UPI) -- One day after making history, Laura Davies became history following a disastrous round at the Horizons Golf Resort Friday.

Davies, the first woman to tee off in a European Tour event, missed the cut after placing 154th through 36 holes in the 155-player ANZ Championship.

A former Player of the Year on the LPGA Tour, Davies opened with a respectable 3-over-par 75 on Thursday. But she scuffled to a second-round 83 that translated to minus-12 points on the Modified Stableford Scoring system.

"It just wasn't meant to be, was it?" Davies said. "I still feel I could have done a lot better, but I'm glad I did it. At least I had a go."

The 36-hole leader was Steve Webster with 27 points.

Only Australia's Shane Tait, who was bothered by a back injury, finished behind Davies.
