Freshman recruitment: cue the strippers

BOULDER, Colo., Feb. 10 (UPI) -- The head of a company that supplies strippers for for parties says sports recruitment at Colorado universities is a big part of his trade.

Steve Lower, president of Hardbodies Entertainment, says he has sent dancers to Boulder and other college towns for more than 20 years.

"It's just like being in a strip club, but we come to you."

During the past year, Lower said he sent his dancers to about 10 recruiting parties for various CU sports teams. Five of those parties were for football players and recruits, he said.

Lower said that CU athletes, usually upperclassmen, phone his company, then host the women and recruits in off-campus homes, paying roughly $250 (not including tips) for two women to strip and dance for an hour.

University of Colorado head football coach Gary Barnett said Monday he knew nothing of strippers at recruitment parties.

According to Hardbodies dancer Jennifer Nass, alcohol was present at about half of them, but "it was never out of control."

Nass, 23, will often show up wearing clothes with the school's colors.

Without the strippers, Lower said, a lot of the youngsters might go somewhere else.

"If you ask me, I hope it works and we get some good recruits in here," he said.
