University of Colorado suspends four

BOULDER, Colo., Feb. 8 (UPI) -- The coach of the University of Colorado in Boulder, Colo., has suspended four football players for violating team rules.

Football player Chris Hollis took a recruit to a strip club in Boulder, according to a university news release.

Coach Gary Barnett said he learned of the strip club visit during a team meeting Saturday. The meeting was prompted by a police announcement Friday of an investigation into whether a Boulder-area escort service had conducted activities at a hotel involving university football players, the Denver Post reported.

While players and coaches said they knew nothing of the escort service allegations, four players stepped forward and admitted visiting the strip club.

Barnett decided to suspend all four players for the season-opener against rival Colorado State University.

The university's ports information director, Dave Plati, refused to comment on which team rules were violated by Hollis, Brian Daniels, Jack Tipton and Sammy Joseph.

"That's something that's private for the team," he told the newspaper. "It's an internal thing."
