Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24
HOUSTON, Feb. 2 (UPI) -- Adam Vinatieri's first two field goal attempts failed but he said that wasn't bothering him when as he kicked the game-winner for New England in the Super Bowl.
"You've just got to block out all that stuff and put it behind you," said Vinatieri, whose 41-yarder with four seconds left gave the Patriots a 32-29 victory over the Carolina Panthers Sunday.
Earlier in the game, Vinatieri was wide-right on a 31-yard attempt and had a 36-yarder blocked.
Vinatieri has now kicked game-winners in two Super Bowls. Two years ago he kicked one from 48 yards on the game's final play to beat the St. Louis Rams.
Patriots quarterback Tom Brady was named Most Valuable Player in Sunday's game. It was his second Super Bowl MVP award.
Brady tossed three touchdown passes and engineered the drive that led to Vinatieri's game-winning kick.
"I'm so proud of this team and how we always seem to fight through the tough stuff," Brady said.
Carolina quarterback Jake Delhomme also had three touchdown passes.
The loss, he said, was "one of the worst feelings in the world."
