The veteran coach underwent testing at the Cleveland Clinic on Tuesday to determine the cause of a pain in his left side. He had announced that he would take an indefinite medical leave for what he classified as a "urological related" pain.

In Pitino's absence, Assistant Coach Kevin Willard guided with the 4th ranked Cardinals to a 64-48 victory over Houston on Wednesday in Freedom Hall. Their next game will be with Marquette Saturday.
