Belichick says to expect physical play

HOUSTON, Jan. 28 (UPI) -- New England reached the Super Bowl in part by roughing up Indianapolis receivers in the AFC Championship game.

Patriots Coach Bill Belichick said Wednesday more of the same could be expected Sunday when his team faces Carolina in the Super Bowl.

"Football is a contact sport and being able to control the line of scrimmage and cause turnovers with contact and jam receivers and that kind of thing is very important in terms of controlling the tempo of the game," Belichick said in his daily visit with the media.

"Offensively, it's the same thing. They're trying to do that to you and you've got to be able to hold your ground and battle back on that.

"I think that is always a significant part of the game, being physical, initiating the contact, being aggressive and making sure that on the football field you are able to hold your ground and control your turf."
