Tigers agree to terms with RHP Yan

DETROIT, Jan. 20 (UPI) -- The Detroit Tigers on Tuesday agreed to terms on a minor league contract with righthander Esteban Yan and invited him to spring training.

The 28-year-old Yan spent last season with St. Louis and Texas, going 2-0 with a 6.02 ERA in 39 relief appearances with the Cardinals and 0-1 with a 6.94 ERA in 15 relief stints with the Rangers.

Yan, who also pitched for the Baltimore Orioles from 1996-97 and the Tampa Bay Devil Rays from 1998-2002, went 5-0 with a 2.22 ERA in 11 games with Estrellas in the Dominican Winter League. He tied for the league lead in wins and finished third in ERA, winning the league's Pitcher of the Year honors.
