TAMPA, Fla., Jan. 19 (UPI) -- Milan Hejduk beat Nikolai Khabibulin on a penalty shot 59 seconds into overtime Monday as Colorado rallied for a 5-4 victory over Tampa Bay.
Hejduk scored twice and added two assists but saved his best move for the extra period. After being knocked off balance by Brad Lukowich to set up the penalty shot, Hejduk put a shot past Khabibulin, who was unable to get his glove up in time.
Playing without Peter Forsberg, the Avalanche found themselves in a back-and-forth affair, but they got a big night from Hejduk, who set up defenseman Martin Skoula's first-period tally and Alex Tanguay's second-period goal, which tied it at 3-3.
Hejduk evened it, 4-4, with 6:19 left in regulation.
After Sakic and Skoula scored three minutes apart in the first period, Dmitry Afansenkov, Tim Taylor and Ruslan Fedotenko tallied in the second.
