NHL: Detroit 3, Phoenix 3 (OT)

DETROIT, Jan. 16 (UPI) -- Steve Yzerman became the seventh player to reach 1,700 points with an assist Friday night, helping Detroit record a 3-3 tie with Phoenix.

Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg combined on the tying goal for Detroit late in the third period.

Yzerman, Detroit's longtime captain, reached the milestone while in the locker room. He was given an assist on Kris Draper's second-period goal that knotted the contest, 1-1.

Detroit's Mathieu Dandenault turned the puck over in the low slot, leading to a goal by rookie Fredrik Sjostrom's with 8:45 remaining.

But Datsyuk got the Red Wings even by feeding Zetterberg for the tying goal. After receiving Datsyuk's pass, Zetterberg deked goaltender Brian Boucher, switched from his forehand to his backhand and scored his seventh goal.
